Team NETHERLANDS

Position of strength

A distance of just a few kilometres separates Monchengladbach and their westerly neighbours, who are entering the Junior Trophy from a position of strength. In the past year these competitive KNHB youngsters won the European Championship title in Prague against a good German team, beating them 3:2 in the final after extra time. It was their sixth European title after 1976, 1979, 1992, 1996 and 2002. The year previously they were second best European team, although they had imagined they would be better than ‘only’ fifth placed on their home territory in Rotterdam. Because of the relatively short distances involved, the national junior team in Holland is able to train up to twice a week, which shows itself in their fluency as a team.
