Team BELGIUM

On the way up

The Belgian youth team is clearly on the way up. Although they didn’t qualify in 2001 for the U21 World Championships in Hobart (AUS), the Belgian junior eleven were still the fifth-placed European nation in the next World Championships held in Rotterdam in 2005. Pascal Kina’s team came a step further at the 2006 European Championships in Prague, when after a penalty shootout the team snatched the bronze medal away from Spain, who had been third in the World Championships. That was definitely their best performance since 1981, when the Belgian team for the first and only time in 13 tries reached the finals of the Junior European Championships and were beaten 2:1 by Germany. Let’s see if the upwards trend continues in Monchengladbach!
