The Belgian coach says "It’s a sensation"

Even though India started the game as favourite, everything changed after the last whistle. The Belgians sprang crazily around the field, delirious with joy. In the final tomorrow, the Netherlands meet Belgium. In the 12th minute, India had the first chance of a goal, but the Belgian keeper Vincent Vanasch safely parried the ball. It came as a surprise when Maurice Dubois put Belgium in the lead by intercepting a ball cannoning away from the goalkeeper. Gurvinder Chandi was able to equalise from a short corner and a ball from Deewakar Ram. Dubois upset the draw, after a shot from a penalty corner was sent his way. India’s last man, keeper Shreejesh, prevented his team from going in a goal down at half time.

Once the whistle blew after half time, Belgium again went into the lead. Wouter van Hecke got hold of the result of a short corner. But India could equalise once more, when Ram flicked the ball cheekily under the bar. Danish Mujtaba had the best chance of putting India in the clear, but he pulled the ball away over the empty goal and it landed in the stands at the back. Less than 3 minutes later Félix Denayer scored for Belgium. India couldn’t recover from the shock and weren’t able to seize any more chances. Then in the final minute, Renaud Pangrazio just missed increasing the lead even more.

The Belgian trainer Marcelo Orlando said it was a sensation for Belgian hockey to be in the final. He thought it would be an even game, but that his players would finally triumph.
